I bet part of the reason for possible cancellation is the way the entire modding and mapping community turned out. I could have pen and papered a better concept than what there is now. It probably would have had some severe flaws, but I don’t see how it can be worse than what we have now.
Simple fast games are WAY over represented at the top. Some of the best map makers in the community have given up on it because of this.
As for price scheme and copy implementation, blizzard should start SMALL, give the player base the caveat that the first phase would be experimental. Limit map pricing in the first experimental phase to $1. Build anti-copying tools as necessary, and tell the first generation that they might make money or they might get their map stolen. Then when it does happen, blizzard would at least have an idea of how to better protect it.

Yep, it’s going to be very tricky and I feel like it’s an uphill battle on how to encrypt maps vs people breaking into them.
