So for a long while PowerAuras was broken for me. What was interesting about PA was that I used it only to track somewhat minor things, various buffs and debuffs on me or my target. Fed up with PA not being updated, I started seeking out alternatives and stumbled on TellMeWhen.

Now strictly from wanting to track buffs/debuffs as I said above, you can do that easily. But what was really amazing was the amount of conditional events you could track to create icons. I did some searching and found that some blood DK had created what was basically a spell priority list based on the state his character was in so he always knew exactly what he should be casting at any moment. That setup was fairly complex but I started out on replicating this back when I was a frost mage. Through much experimentation and iteration I devised a straightforward frost priority. A few patches later I flipped to fire and went to work setting up a fire spec. Interestingly enough, fire had become either a lot more complicated since Cat or I was never good to begin with. Regardless, below is the fruit of my labor. It certainly isn’t perfect, so feedback is always welcome and I’m always making tweaks to this. I also hope it generates enough interest to fuel new ideas.

  1. Install TMW
  2. Type “/tmw” to open the config
  3. Right click on one of the boxes to open the config window
  4. Copy and paste the below string in to the bottom line
  5. Import

When you open the TMW config it looks very daunting, I have tons of bars all over, but in execution there should be 3 main visible things: cooldown bar, enemy reaction bar, and what you should be casting bar.

  • Cooldown bar shows cooldowns universally available as well as spec aware spells. For example it shows frozen orb only if you’re frost spec but it always shows mirror image.
  • Enemy reaction is setup for 3 [constantly evolving] things, can I counterspell the target, can I spellsteal a buff off the target, and does the target have a spell reflect up.
  • What you should be casting is a bit more complicated as it’s simply 2-3 meta icons that pull from the set spell priority. The top spell is what you should be actively casting and the spell below it is what you should expect to cast next. For frost it’s very simple, but for fire the priority can change in an instant depending on your luck with crits. For both specs, if you see nothing in the active casting, you should be casting the filler spell (fireball or frostbolt) depending on your spec.

Global Warnings
On all of the spells I labeled the icons with the hotkeys I personally use for the spell. If you’re wondering why the spells have numbers, that can be changed on the bottom right in the config panel for that icon.

Frost Setup
Pulling from Icy Veins, the priority is very simply and elegantly setup. I’ve pulled frozen orb out of the main spell list because while it’s suggested you cast it on cooldown, I recommend knowing the fight well enough to cast it when it is most opportune, for example when you know adds will come out etc.. There’s not much to know here other than to follow the what you should be casting icons and keeping an eye on cooldowns when they’re available.

Fire Setup
Pulling from Icy Veins as well, the priority list is significantly more complicated. Fire is at a point where you really have to know the muscle memory of what you’re doing and be able to react to the very fast change in crit streaks. I’ve worked in a few of the complicated tips Icy Veins details (Heating up trick) but discard some of the others (some but not all of the alter time tricks).

While I said earlier that my TMW setup should respect which bombs you choose, I have a custom living bomb icon that lets you know when you can pre-detonate. I have tweaked nether tempest as well a hair for fire so be aware of that as well. If you ever generate an arcane TWM off of this, some of those bomb teaks may need to be changed up.

Fire Warnings
The most important thing to know about the fire setup, is that 3 of the icons are very specifically set to my current gear layout and constantly change as I upgrade. Those 3 icons are all combustion. I have these icons look at the ignite variable on the target and report 3 levels of combust. The base level is when ignite hits what I see as my average ignite damage. This will be the weakest, baseline damage I would allow for me to cast combustion. The 2nd is about 10k damage higher than that and the 3rd 20k higher than the base. If you want to use this setup, you will have to go into the conditions and change the value I’m monitoring for this. It is the very top condition for all 3 icons.
